Walter Keller A Few Words From Willard ...

I grew up on a northern Saskatchewan farm bordering the timberline. Since 1974 I have lived and worked in northern Manitoba. First, as a chainsaw logger, then a lumber grader, and now my occupation is a licensed Manitoba arborist. I presently own and operate a commercial tree service.

From all my years working with wood I did take a short break in 1989 when I took on a role as a technical services manager for chainsaw manufacturer Stihl Ltd.

I'm a "chainsaw only" carver. With my custom modified sawchain and filing techniques, a good finish with detail can be achieved. I have also had the pleasure of being featured as a chainsaw carver on CBC's Coleman & Company in 1995.

For many years I have been the chainsaw carving events director for the Northern Manitoba Trapper's Festival here in The Pas, Manitoba. Our event is on the 3rd Saturday of February and all carvers are welcome to enter. Prizes consist of cash and chainsaws. Artists can sell or keep their wares. Check out www.trappersfestival.com and click on both "chainsaw events" and "logging events" for photos, videos, results, rules and regulations. Plus other great things you can see or do during our festival.
